2 months old and going strong

That's right, Henry is 2 months old today, and what better way to celebrate than with a trip to the Dr.'s office and a round of 5 shots!  He was ready for a nap, and not a check-up, but he managed to show off his lungs and had no problem opening his mouth so the Dr. could take a look.  How cooperative.  Of course, just as I got him settled down after the exam, in came the nurse with the needles.  He let us know this was not cool, but what do you expect.  Anyway, he is doing great and is growing just like he should.  I'm still blown away at how quickly the time is passing and how much he has already changed.  Now, if I could just get my body to change that quickly, we'd be great!  I guess I shouldn't expect to bounce back as quickly the second time, but come on...I have a closet full of cute clothes that are just soooo close to fitting, but not quite.  Oh well.

So here are his stats, for those of you who care to track every little milestone along with me :).
Weight: 11 lbs 12.5 oz (50%)
Height: 23 in (50%)
Far from average, of course, but very well proportioned.

I'm happy to say that he has continued sleeping about 9 hours at night!  I may even attempt to drop the 10pm feeding soon and see how he does.  The Dr. thinks he can probably make it all night pretty soon and that I should drop it in the next month so he doesn't start wanting it, even if he doesn't need it anymore.  That would be GREAT!  So, other than not wanting to sleep in the car seat and taking short naps when he's overtired, he's doing just fine.  He's starting to smile more and even coo a little.  He doesn't like the paci very much, but is sure working hard to get his thumb.  He must take after his big sis, or his dad.

OK mom, get me out of this thing...

I MEANT RIGHT NOW!!!!

Livestrong!

This morning's conversation with Aubrey went something like this...

Aubrey: "Look Daddy, there's you." (Brian was on the computer trying to find out when the pool opens.)

Daddy: "Where?"

Aubrey: "Right there!" (she exclaimed while pointing to the screen)

Mom: "What is she looking at Brian?"

Daddy: "Lance Armstrong."

Now, I know Brian likes to Bike, but convincing your child you're Lance Armstrong is a bit much, don't you think?

Our week in photos

A slow week of writing for me. Busy, and fussy baby. Here are a few photos from the week.

Praise the Lord and pass the ammunition!

Hallelujah again, this time for Henry.  The little man is growing up and slept through the night last night for the first time!  He went to bed at 8pm, I fed him in his sleep at 10pm and he slept until 7:15am!  Now I just need to train my internal alarm not to go off at 4am, then 5:30, then 6am.  I kept waking up thinking, "is he up...is he going to sleep all night...it's 5:30, oh please let him go one more hour so it doesn't throw off the whole day!"

So, it won't be long until he's walking, then talking, then hunting with his granddad

Washateria!

Oh yeah.  Can you think of a better way to spend an afternoon than at the good old washateria?  Me either.

Two weeks ago, our washer went haywire.  It's less than two years old, so naturally, we're a little irritated.  So while we await the part that will hopefully fix it (yes, my sweet husband is making another attempt to fix something himself,) we have been relying on other people and their working machines to ensure we aren't too stinky.

Anyway, today I am reliving college memories while I wait for our clothes to wash at the laundromat.  Only this time, I am actually enjoying myself.  First of all, there is free wifi!  Wahoo!  Man, life would have been so much easier back then if I'd had a laptop and the internet to pass the time.  Secondly, they have these crazy 2,4, and 5 load machines.  So rather than spending the entire day at home doing the wash, it will be done in the time it has taken me to write this post.  Now that is something.  And best of all...I get out of the house for an hour or so, without two kids in tow.  Ahhhhhh.

Not so picture perfect

Anyone who has tried to photograph children understands that even with a high-speed, fancy pants camera, it's near impossible to capture the child just when you want.  However, in the process of trying to take the perfect picture, you sometimes end up with something much more entertaining...

Job hazards

Working on an aircraft carrier, I was very aware of the dangers. Although my job wasn't dangerous in and of itself, just living on the ship can be dangerous if you aren't aware of  your surroundings.  Never would I have thought I needed a sign to remind me of the dangers of motherhood.

This morning, I was nursing Henry.  He was having a difficult time "focusing," so I gave him a break and put him on my shoulder for a burp.  A minute or so later I heard a very large "blast."  So, I gently lifted the top of his diaper back to take a peak... and you guessed it, another blast sounded right at that moment.  Let's just say, he has some power and my face received a bit of the shrapnel.  Lovely.  It could have been MUCH worse, and was really just a little drop or two. I suppose I should print this picture and paste it to the wall in his room to remind me of the hazards of this job!

Brother and sister?????

A lot of people have asked if Henry looks like Aubrey did at this age. My initial reaction was no, not at all. But lately, I'm starting to see some similarities. Take away the head full of dark hair, and you can tell they're related!

Dress Up

Aubrey has a neighbor friend, Kate, who is three. Kate has a great dress up closet and she loves to dress Aubrey up whenever we go over.  A few months ago, Kate introduced her to Abba's "Dancing Queen" song...and ever since, Aubrey will only dance to that song.  So, today she told me she was going to play dress up in her room. I said OK, but should have wondered considering she doesn't really have much in the way of dress up items. After 15 mins or so of not seeing her, I went to check on her and discovered that "dress up" really meant pulling everything out of her drawers and throwing it around her room.  Oh well, she was having a great time and being very creative, so I couldn't get too upset.  It wasn't long before she asked to hear Dancing Queen and dance. Here she is strutting her stuff

SMILES!

Henry is six weeks old now and I can't believe how quickly the time has passed. I remember that Aubrey smiled for the first time around 5 weeks, so for the last week or so, I've been working on getting Henry to smile. He's trying really hard to do it, but I'm not sure it's the "real"thing yet. You be the judge...

More weekend photos and a busy day

I was in a bit of a hurry when I wrote the last post and didn't load all the photos I wanted, so here is round two. We're so sad today that Jeny and Avery are gone.

It was back to reality today for me. Here's a glimpse at my life with two kids. Both Henry and Aubrey woke up much earlier than I had planned, which threw him off schedule (and me) on a day I needed some stability! I did manage to get Aubrey to school close to on time. (Plus one point.) However, Henry refused to take his first nap in the car seat and screamed for most of the ride. (Minus one point.) I arrived for my postpartum check-up on time (plus one), but had a 45 min wait which resulted in Henry going way past his feeding time. (minus 2 points. I kept thinking as soon as I tried to feed him in the waiting room they would call me in, so I held him off way too long!) After feeding him in the car, we headed home. He was exhausted. After a successful transfer from car seat to crib, he and I both took a nap. (plus 2 points!) He was still passed out when it was time to feed him again, which slowed down the process. I had a very short timeline for getting him fed and in the car so we could get Aubrey from school on time. After a very large spit up, a shirt change for me and three stinky diapers for him in less than 5 minutes, we made it out the door...but of course, we were late. (minus 4 points). The rest of the day went much better. Aubrey actually napped at school (plus one) and exclaimed that she could go to the park and eat ice cream. She was so proud of herself that I couldn't refuse. Luckily, Henry was still tired from a long morning and was sound asleep (plus one.) So we stopped for a frozen treat and then headed to the playground. Henry slept the whole time and even stayed asleep when we got home for another 45 min. (plus one). So that about sums it up. With all the ups and downs, pluses and minuses, we ended up right back at 0. Not bad in the end! Of course, the day isn't over yet :).

A great long weekend

We were so excited to have Jeny and her daughter Avery come visit us from Virginia. The girls have loved playing together and I've really enjoyed having the adult conversation and helping hands!!! We've had a fun, but low key weekend. We went to our neighborhood parade on the 4th of July, to Town Lake to feed the ducks and to a swim party at the Sessi's house. I sure do wish they lived closer so we could play all the time!

Hallelujah!

Aubrey loves to play, but rarely does so by herself for long periods, at least not with me around.  I have to say that in the last week, she has decided to entertain herself more and more.  I guess she does this out of necessity since I'm not at her beck and call 24/7 anymore.  Anyway, today she spent a good 30 minutes playing with matchbox cars (yes, they were Brian's, and yes, he's a little upset that someone else is playing with them.)

Beautiful girl

So sweet

Henry is doing great!

Henry had the VCUG this morning.  The Dr.'s office just called and said everything was normal!!!!  YEAH.  I felt sure it would be, but I guess you never know.  He did really well considering he was strapped to a cold table and injected with dye.  He wasn't a fan of having water poured on him to make him pee, but otherwise he was a trooper.  Thank goodness this whole ordeal is finally behind us.  They did take a urine sample and will check it to make sure the bacteria are gone. He'll have one more dose of antibiotics tonight and then we are done!  I suddenly feel really tired and run down.  I think I was holding in more stress than I realized, and now I'm beat.  Hopefully I can get Henry and Aubrey to nap at the same time today so I can catch a little sleep too.  Anyway, thanks for all your thoughts and prayers.  We are so thankful he is doing well!
