Anyway, back to Aubrey. She did great on the "mini-team" (as they called her lessons) and was extremely dedicated. On top of tennis, choir and soccer, she started swimming 3 times a week for 5 weeks. It just about drove me to exhaustion, but not her. She even showed up to practice two times in the pouring rain, and was the only one there the first time. She loved having a private lesson! I really thought she'd start asking why she couldn't "play" in the water, but she never did. She was super happy to just be swimming.
Swim try outs had already passed, so I asked the coach if now that we were members Aubrey could join the team. She tested her and said "yes, we WANT her on the team." You should have seen Aubrey's face. She was ecstatic. She has been wanting to do this for over a year and even told her tennis coach (who runs the club) that she really wanted to be an Orca.
Her first swim meet was this past Saturday, and she did so well! She didn't seem phased by the massive crowd at all. She swam 25 freestyle and was so excited. She didn't care that she didn't win. I think the only disappointment was that she only got to swim one race.
Aubrey has found her sport, for now. She simply cannot get enough of swimming. We have been swimming 5 days a week now for a few weeks and this will continue until the end of June. I will probably grow sick of it all long before her, but really, it gives me so much joy to see her so happy.
I wanted to ease into the meets, and had to volunteer too, so I didn't bother bringing my camera to the first one. I did capture some on my phone and so did my neighbor.
On the ready bench
Please ignore the crazy lady screaming her name.
